Kempele's Zeppelin shopping precinct is situated next to the main thoroughfare through the area, the national route no. 4, with a traffic density of some 20 000 vehicles a day. Many of these call in at Zeppelin on their way, as in addition to local shoppers, perhaps as many as a third of the customers are long-distance travellers.
A total of almost three million customers was recorded at Zeppelin in 2002. Parking is free of charge, and there is ample space in its car parks.
Zeppelin provides a leisurely atmosphere for shopping. It is in effect a full-service shopping city where one can spend a whole day very pleasantly. Food shopping is possible at bargain prices by combining the special offers of its various supermarkets, its huge clothes shops would allow a family to renew its entire wardrobe, and there are good opportunities for buying souvenirs, household appliances, mobile phones and computers - all under the same roof, along with small boutiques, specialized shops and a number of restaurants for when you are overtaken by hunger.
There is no shortage of other things to do at Zeppelin, either, for both children and adults: conjurors, dance and music performances, fashion shows, fairs and markets and sports events - Zeppelin does not leave anyone cold, as it is a centrally heated mini-city that provides warm shopping opportunities all the year round.
The surroundings of the Zeppelin complex are also being developed all the time. Next door is the new public baths and spa, Zimmeri, a MacDonalds hamburger restaurant, a filling station and a large hardware store. The whole area is being developed through fruitful partnership between the local authority and commercial interests.
