A PLEASANT PLACE WITH GOOD STANDARDS OF SERVICE
Kempele, good for growth

Our slogan is "Kempele, good for growth". The district has made an active effort to develop its services, and so it should, for it is one of the fastest growing local government areas in the whole country. And as the new inhabitants are mostly young families with children, they need day nurseries and schools most of all.

Almost a half of the population of Kempele is under 30 years of age, and standards of education are among the highest in Finland.

Kempele is proud of its schools - and not without reason. It is there that the seeds of future success will be sown. The local element in the curriculum places particular emphasis on international attitudes and entrepreneurship, and the use of computers is taken for granted, of course.

Perhaps the best known of the educational establishments in Kempele is its Horticultural College, which has a long and honoured tradition. It functions in the stately surroundings of an old manor house, which has been actively preserved alongside the new buildings. The school's main hall is used for concerts and theatrical productions.

The most popular event in Kempele's calendar is "Spring begins in Kempele", a springtime flower festival held at the Horticultural College. The same venue is also used for a international choir festival arranged every second year. The district's own Youth Choir enjoys a widespread reputation for its artistic performances.

The basic services required of any local authority are also well organized here. The district has its own health centre, day nurseries and schools to serve the various residential areas separately.

Kempele is preparing for a future as the southernmost node in the Oulu Region. We want people to make the most of their lives here.
